Niet alleen schoolborden worden gerestaureerd. Er is nog veel meer werk aan de winkel. Many more preparations were underway for the start of the new school year on Monday, February 12th.Zo wordt er ook geschrobd, gewreven en geboend tot alles weer spic en span is en alles weer stralend glanst. De vloeren zijn daarbij de grootste uitdaging. Want dat zijn grote oppervlakten en er zijn geen boenmachines. Dus dat is schoonmaken en boenen met de hand en op de knieën.

Elidah is al vanaf het prille begin van de Linda Blind Farm School (nu Xavier Community School), degene die er zorg voor draagt dat dat kinderen en de leraren naar een schone school gaan. Elke ochtend is zij heel vroeg uit de veren en rond 6.00 u op school om alles te vegen, poetsen, recht te zetten, op te ruimen en alles wat er nog meer bij komt kijken.

Vloeren boenen doen ze een paar keer per jaar. Niet alleen om schoon te houden maar ook om goed te onderhouden.
Morgen bij de opening van de school glanzen de vloeren weer als “nieuw”. Samen met een ouder heeft Elidah er weer veel tijd in zitten maar ze hebben het voor elkaar! Vanuit Bouwstenen hebben we het schoonmaakmateriaal gefinancierd deze keer zodat het ook iets gemakkelijk ging en ze nog meer eer van hun werk hebben.

Not only restoring black boards but also there’s this scrubbing, rubbing, polishing until everything is spick and span and gleaming once more. The floors pose the biggest challenge in this regard. They’re vast surfaces and there are no floor scrubbing machines. So it’s cleaning and scrubbing by hand, down on the knees.

Elidah has been the one taking care of ensuring that the children and teachers enter a clean school since the very beginning of the Linda Blind Farm School (now Xavier Community School). Every morning, she rises early, arriving at the school around 6:00 a.m. to sweep, polish, straighten, tidy up, and all the other tasks that come with it.

They scrub the floors a few times a year, not just to keep them clean, but also to maintain them well. Tomorrow, at the school’s opening, the floors will shine once again, as “new.” Elidah, along with a parent, has invested a lot of time into this, but they’ve succeeded! This time, with support from Bouwstenen, we financed the cleaning materials so that the task was a bit easier, giving them even more pride in their work.
