Afgelopen vrijdag was het bijna een feest in Grade 5 op de Xavier Community School. Janneke en Ellen kwamen nog een keer in de klas met hun koffer gevuld met creatieve materialen. Het was “knutseldag”. Een echte Art-les. Het was even wennen voor kinderen want het is ook een beetje “friemelen” als je niet gewend bent om zo je vingers te gebruiken oftewel je fijne motoriek te oefenen :).

De kinderen hebben wel erg veel plezier gehad. En poseren voor de foto met een bloemetje op je voorhoofd, daar ga je dan ook heel serieus voor zitten.

Last Friday there was a special activity in Grade 5 at Xavier Community School. Janneke and Ellen came into the classroom one more time with their suitcase filled with creative materials. It was “craft day.” A real art class. It took some getting used to for children, because it is a little “fiddling” if you are not used to using your fingers like that or practicing your fine motor skills :).

The kids had a lot of fun though. Although while posing for the picture with a flower on your forehead, they did all put on their serious face.

Als u dit leest hangen Janneke Mes en Ellen de Jong na 4 weken Zambia weer in de lucht op weg naar Nederland. Zeker weten dat ze weer een keer de weg terug gaan. Hun missie is om kinderen en teachers te helpen de creatieve ontwikkeling bij kinderen te stimuleren en hen het plezier (en nut) daarvan te doen ervaren. When you read this, Janneke Mes and Ellen de Jong are in the air again after 4 weeks in Zambia on their way to the Netherlands. For sure they will return to Zambia one day. Their mission is to help children and teachers stimulate creative development in children and make them experience the joy (and usefulness) of it. Last week I posted a blog in which this vision, the importance of developing the creative brain and motor skills of children, is also highlighted.

Het Art-project van Janneke en Ellen was de afgelopen weken vooral gericht op twee andere scholen in Livingstone: The Nekacheya School en de Linda Community School. Hartstikke fijn voor de Xavier Community School dat ze ook nog tijd vonden om een aantal keren op de Xavier Community School creatieve lessen te geven. Bedankt Janneke en bedankt Ellen. Tot straks ziens in Nederland. Na mijn minor in Kenya dadelijk, gaan we elkaar zeker zien!

Janneke and Ellen’s Art project in recent weeks has focused on two other schools in Livingstone: The Nekacheya School and the Linda Community School. Very nice for the Xavier Community School that they also found time to teach creative classes at the Xavier Community School several times. Thank you Janneke and thank you Ellen. See you soon in the Netherlands. After my minor in Kenya, we will definitely see each other!
