Time to celebrate: A milestone: the highest point of the new Xavier Community Primary School.

This ceremony is in The Netherlands called “roof tile beer”. The flag will be raised in the highest point. And client, constructor, staff and others involved, toast a beer together.

If felt like the community of the Linda Farm, all the workers of John Muleya, our fantastic builder, the staff of the school, the parents committee, our local partners as Dream Livingstone, The Ministry and his building department, the Council department as mr Thomas and the ZAPD, should share this small ceremony too. A small donation for their incredibily hard work and their loyal support, involvement and commitment, most through all the years long, to the Xavier Primary Community School/ Linda Blind Farm Primary School. Even in these strange times.

Therefore, on behalf of the foundation Bricks of Zambia, I’m happy to have been able to offer everyone a big bag of Nsjima meali meal. To commemorate what we have achieved so far. Yet also to look forward into the future. Because if we are going together, we will even go further!

Friday the 5th of September at 14.00 PM there was this small ceremony. Everyone gathered at the construction plot. Most people with mouth masks. Unfortunately not always on 1,5 m distance. I’ve been told the excitement was too big to keep this into the mind the whole time. There was this speech to explain the meaning of the Dutch ritual of roof tile ceremonies and to connect this Dutch ritual with the construction of the Xavier Primary Community School construction in Zambia. And to share the purpose of this gesture and ceremony in these strange times.

Everyone got a bag of 25 kg of Nsjima meali meal to take home. Very welcome in these very hard times. Of course because of the corona but corona didn’t come on it’s on. There is also the economical situation strongly exposed by the inflation of the kwatcha (1:22 now, and for example, in 2014 it was 1:7) and if it is not enough there is also the impact of the climate changes which makes it almost impossibe to harvest grain, vegetables or what ever. So this affects the income of many people and therefore daily life et cetera et cetera, even more than ever .

Over 73 big meali bags where handed over. Every family, one bag. Please view the next blog for the ceremony itself and the respons! Very many thanks to Kennedy and Rabeccah Mukumbo from Dream Livingstone, my partners since 2014 , the teachers by teacher Bridget as the parents from the school committee and the ZAPD, for organizing this small ceremony.
