Wat een indrukwekkende openingsceremony was dit. Ik ben er, twee dagen later, nog stil van. En nog veel belangrijker: de kinderen en de leraren van de school zelf zijn nog een beetje beduusd. Wat een aandacht, wat een grote opkomst. Het leidt geen enkele twijfel: de Linda Blind Farm School staat op de kaart! Wat een prachtige kroon op 10 jaar hard werken, het oog op de bal houden en geloof houden in je droom. De Xavier Community School doet er toe! Voor nu al bijna 240 kinderen, hun families en community, voor de leraren, voor de mensen op de Linda Farm, voor het ministerie, voor de gemeente, voor alle partners. De Linda Blind Farm School/Xavier Community School is een begrip geworden. En niet alleen in Livingstone of in Zambia maar zelfs wereldwijd zijn er heel veel mensen die de Linda Blind Farm School nu een warm hart toe dragen.

Het zou de Linda Blind Farm School en ook u als helper, ambassadeur en/of donateur, te kort doen om alles in een blog te delen. Het is als een boeiend boek. Je kunt er in blijven lezen. Hier is deel 1. Video’s houdt u nog te goed.. (de wifi…).

What an impressive opening ceremony this was. Two days later, I am still silent. And more importantly, the children and teachers at the school are still a bit perplexed. What an attention, what a great turnout. There is no doubt about it: the Linda Blind Farm School is on the map! What a wonderful crown on 10 years of hard work, keeping one’s eye on the ball and faith in one’s dream. The Xavier Community School matters! For already almost 240 children, their families and community, for the teachers, for the people at the Linda Farm, for the Ministry, for the municipality, for all partners. The Linda Blind Farm School/Xavier Community School has become a concept. And not only in Livingstone or in Zambia, but even worldwide, there are many people who now support the Linda Blind Farm School.

It would be too short for the Linda Blind Farm School and also you as a helper, ambassador and/or donor, to share everything in a blog. It is like a fascinating book. You can keep reading in it. Here is part 1. Video’s will come up later (the wifi…).

Donderdag 30 juni was het een drukte van belang op de Linda Farm. Alle leerlingen waren er, en allemaal op hun best gekleed. De meesten hadden ook hun ouders meegenomen. Het lerarenteam helemaal up en top als team herkenbaar in de speciaal gemaakte tenue’s.

Auto’s vol hoogwaardigheidsbekleders bleven maar komen. Ook waren er vele partners aanwezig. Sommigen zelfs al van het eerste uur, waar ik, nu al bijna negen jaar geleden, al samen mee werkte! Zelfs vanuit Lusaka, wat acht uur enkele reis is, kwamen de gasten. Het grote moment was aangebroken. Na bijna 6 jaar hard werken, de moed erin houden, niet opgeven, en ook nog Covid die, dankzij onze aannemer en zijn team, maar een heel klein stokje tussen de spaken kon steken.
Zelfs dat de tent, altijd behorend tot de basisuitrusting en bedoeld voor de officials, eigenlijk gebruikt werd voor begrafenissen (we zouden een tent lenen van het Zambiaanse leger, maar die tent bleek kwijt te zijn), kon de pret niet drukken!

Traditioneel begon de opening wat later dan gepland ;). Zambian time noemen we dat hier?. Maar daar hadden de kinderen een oplossing voor. Zij zorgde de leerlingen voor ‘entertainment’ en hadden prachtige dansen, street dance optredens en bijzondere toespraken. Na drie weken oefenen kwamen de meerstemmige liedjes er perfect uit. De vreugde op de gezichten van de leerlingen en hun sprankelende ogen spraken boekdelen. Zij hadden de dag van hun leven. Zo trots dat zij dit allemaal deden voor zo’n groot publiek. Zij hebben zich echt zo mooi ontwikkeld. Verlegen, beetje timide of juist helemaal niet, terughoudend, schuifelden ze jaren geleden de Linda Blind Farm School binnen. Nu staan hier kinderen die vertrouwen uitstralen en de durf hebben om voor een groot publiek hun mening en vreugde te delen met dat publiek. Of dat nu in dans, speech of met muziek is, ze doen het! Wat is dit bijzonder mooi om te zien.

Thursday 30 June was a busy day at the Linda Farm. All the students were there, and all dressed to the nines. Most of them had also brought their parents. The teachers’ team all up and running as a team, recognisable in their specially made uniforms.

Cars full of officials kept coming. There were also many partners in the developments for the Xavier Community School since years as of my NGO were present. Some are even partners from the very beginning, with whom I worked almost nine years ago! Even from Lusaka, which is eight hours one way, guests came over to attend the ceremony.

The big moment had arrived. After almost six years of hard work, keeping up the courage, not giving up, and also Covid who, thanks to our contractor and his team, could only put a very small stick between the spokes.
Even the fact that the tent, always part of the basic equipment and intended for the officials, was actually used for funerals (we were supposed to borrow a tent from the Zambian army, but it turned out to be lost), could not spoil the fun!

Traditionally, the opening started a little later than planned. Zambian time we call it here?. But the children had a solution for that. They provided ‘entertainment’ and had beautiful dances, street dance performances and special speeches. After three weeks of practice, the polyphonic songs came out perfectly. The joy on the faces of the pupils and their sparkling eyes spoke volumes. They had the day of their lives. So proud that they did all this for such a large audience. They really developed so beautifully. Shy, a little timid or not at all, they shuffled into the Linda Blind Farm School years ago. Now here are children who radiate confidence and have the courage to share their opinions and joy with a large audience. Whether in dance, speech or music, they do it! How beautiful this is to see.
