Internationale Vrouwendag op 7 maart: dat kent heel veel sterke vrouwen en meiden op de Xavier Community School!

Natuurlijk op de eerste plaats al die meiden die hard werken, elke dag, om zich uit de armoede te werken. Vanuit de schoolbanken.

En dan de teachers en de staf. Sommigen zetten al vanaf meer dan 10 jaar, vanaf 2012, zich in voor de meiden en jongens van de Linda Blind Farm School/Xavier Community School. Nu een team van 8 vrouwen en 2 mannen. Petje af.

En natuurlijk het oudercomité bestaande uit vaders en moeders. Maar ook de andere moeders en ook vaders. Sterk betrokken bij het onderwijs aan hun kinderen. De opkomst op ouderbijeenkomst is altijd weer fantastisch hoog. Het gehalte moeders/ oma’s/ tantes en oudere zussen nog hoger. Ook bij schoolactiviteiten helpen ouders mee: de vloeren in de boenwas zetten, nu bezig met de opzet van een voedingsprogramma voor de kinderen zodat zij tenminste een paar gezonde maaltijden hebben per week, de tuin verzorgen, samen met de kinderen de groentetuin bewerken en dan hebben we nog niet alles genoemd.

Krachtige, sterke vrouwen. Jong en oud. Vasthoudend, volhardend, energiek, gemotiveerd en niet snel uit het veld te slaan. Hoe lastig de omstandigheden ook zijn. Happy International Women’s Day. Every day!

Ontmoet de sterke meiden en vrouwen van de Xavier Community School: 

International Women’s Day – March 7th: Celebrating the Strength of Women and Girls at Xavier Community School

This post is all about strong women and girls—and we see so many of them at Xavier Community School! Specially on International Women’s Day but not only that day. 

First and foremost, there are the girls themselves. Every day, they walk up to school, some of them for almost 2 hours one way, show up and work hard, determined to break the cycle of poverty—starting right from their school desks.

Then there are the teachers and staff. Some of them have been committed to supporting the students of Linda Blind Farm School/Xavier Community School since as far back as 2012. Today, the team is made up of 8 women and 2 men—what an incredible dedication. Hats off to them!

And of course, there’s the parents’ committee, made up of both mothers and fathers. But it’s not just them—the wider parent community is strongly engaged in their children’s education. Attendance at parent meetings is always remarkably high, with an especially strong showing from the mothers. Mothers/ grand mothers/ aunts/ older sisters and of course also fathers et cetera also step up during school activities—polishing floors, helping to set up a school feeding program so the children have access to at least a few healthy meals each week, maintaining the school grounds, and working side by side with the children in the vegetable garden. And that’s just a part of what they do.

These are the powerful, strong women from the Xavier Community School. Young and old. Determined, resilient, energetic, motivated—and not easily discouraged, no matter the challenges they face. And after a strong female head teacher, there is now a male head teacher facilitating all those women and girls in order to help them the girls (and boys) to build themselves a better future, by good education.
