Het schooljaar is alweer om op de Linda Blind Farm school. Summer holiday at the Xavier Community School.

Het is hoog zomer in Zambia. En in de zomer krijg je.. zomervakantie :). Zo ook de kinderen op de Linda Blind Farm School. Het was nog even een week hard werken om alle testen zo goed mogelijk af te leggen maar dan breekt de vakantie aan. Niet dat alle kinderen op de Linda Blind Farm School nu zo staan te springen op een lange vakantie zoals wij dat wel doen. Maar het is wel ongeveer 35 tot 40 graden of meer. En je dan concentreren op je schoolboeken valt niet mee.

Maar geen vakantie voordat het schooljaar afgerond wordt met een echte ceremony. Uit elke klas worden een paar kinderen extra in het zonnetje gezet omdat ze heel erg goed hun best gedaan hebben en/of omdat ze het schooljaar met hele mooie cijferresultaten afgesloten hebben. De middag werd afgesloten met oudergesprekjes waarin besproken wordt hoe het met hun kind(eren) gaat, waar ze aan zouden kunnen werken, wat de kinderen nodig hebben om zich nog beter te kunnen ontwikkelen et cetera.

En wij hadden Anne. Anne ontwikkelt een heel mooi project net aan de andere kant van de rivier. Anne is in Zambia nu, en is naar de Linda Blind Farm School gegaan om foto’s te maken van deze ceremonie! Dankjewel Anne!

Tot slot, de leraren kijken al uit om alle kinderen terug te verwelkomen op 10 Januari! Met dan ook de start van een hele nieuwe klas:  Grade 5!

Last but not zeker not least: heel veel dank aan Anne. Anne is voor haar werk voor haar stichting Lilato nu 3 maanden in Livingstone. Zij bezoekt regelmatig de Linda Blind Farm School en stuurt me dan hele mooie updates. De dank en waardering van Anne is voor het hele team dat al sinds 2012 de schouders eronder zet om deze droom waar te maken: de mensen van de Linda Blind Farm, de teachers en de staff van de school, mijn partner Dream Livingstone Zambia met Rabeccah en Kennedy Mukumbo, het Ministerie van Educatie, het ouder committee, de ZAPD en zoveel meer mensen zoals zeker ook alle sponsoren, donateurs en ambassadeurs zonder wie dit nooit mogelijk zou zijn.

It is summer in Zambia. And summer means it is time for the summer holiday! Also for the children of the Linda Blind Farm School. The teachers and pupils had to work really hard the last week in order to do all of the examinations, so they must be happy it is time for holiday. Although, most children on the Linda Blind Farm School do not look forward as much to the holiday as we do in the Netherlands. But with temperatures ranging from 35 till 40 degrees or more, concentrating on school-work would not have been an easy ask.

But before holiday, the end of the school-year has to be traditionally celebrated with a true ceremony. A few children from every class get honored extra because they put in special effort and/or finished the year with beautiful results. In the afternoon it is time for an individual meeting between the parents and the teachers, to really dive in to how their child is doing, and where there is room for improvement, and what is needed to improve further!

Luckily, we had a witness to this beautiful ceremony. I got to know Anne seven years ago, and she has a beautiful project just on the other side of the river. Anne is in Zambia right now, and went to the Linda Blind Farm School to witness and document the ceremony. Thank you so much Anne! Anne is from the Dutch NGO Lilato and at the time in Livingstone for a few months. She was a special guest at the ceremony and a very appreciated photographer :). So this time our loyal photographer, teacher Bridget, could attend the ceremony as being a member of the staff and being a teacher :).Thanks to you, all of our followers can now enjoy some beautiful pictures as well! And, last but not least,  thanks, for your inspiring comment on your facebook too “had a great morning at the end of year ceremony of Xavier Community School. My friend Xavier really made a nice place there!”.

and of course we had more spectators at this ceremony :). The playgarden is not only very populair for the very young ones :).

Finally, the teachers look forward to re-welcoming all of the students on the 10th of January, when the new school-year starts. And with a new class, because in 2022, the new grade 5 will be opened!
