Het Grote Moment, The Big Moment (2)

Het grote moment was aangebroken! Jarenlang hebben we hier met heel veel mensen naar toe gewerkt: de officiële, plechtige, en vooral ook feestelijk opening van de nieuwe primary school. En hoewel het handwash basin nog niet helemaal klaar was, ging ook daar begrijpelijkerwijs de aandacht naar toe.

 

Een van de hoogtepunten (alhoewel er nog een ander heel bijzonder hoogtepunt was dat ik ook nog graag later met u wil delen) was natuurlijk het knippen van het lint. Samen met the Guest of Honor, mr. Kambunga, de hoogste baas van het Ministerie van Educatie in het district, en de vertegenwoordigster van ZAPD knipten we het lintje resoluut door. Met alle oefening van de afgelopen jaren worden we ook steeds beter in lintjes doorknippen ;). Ik hoop dat er in de toekomst nog wat meer doorgeknipt mag gaan worden voor de school (maar daarover later meer :)!.

Wat een dag. Na jaren van fundraisen, onderhandelen, bouwen en wachten op COVID was het eindelijk zover. De Primary School van de Xavier Community School is officieel geopend. Niets om trotser op te zijn. Trots zijn we dan ook allemaal. Als een pauw.

Dit moment is alleen maar mogelijk geworden dankzij alle support van u gedurende de afgelopen jaren! Wat zou het mooi zijn als u er bij had kunnen zijn. Fysiek of digitaal. Wie weet kan, in ieder geval dat laatste, in de toekomst nog binnen bereik liggen.

Enorm, enorm, bedankt om dit allemaal mee mogelijk te maken! Nu is tijd om te oogsten en om even feest te vieren, en dan weer doorwerken aan realisatie van de andere toekomstdromen voor deze kinderen en al die kinderen die nog van het onderwijs op de Xavier Community School/Linda Blind Farm School in de vele, komende, jaren gaan genieten.

The big moment had arrived! For years, a lot of people had worked towards this: the official, solemn and, above all, festive opening of the new primary school. And although the handwash basin was not quite ready yet, understandably all the attention was focused on that too.

One of the highlights (although there was another very special highlight that I would like to share with you later) was of course the cutting of the ribbon. Together with our Guest of Honor, Mr Kambunga, DEBS of the Ministry of Education and very special partner to me, and the ZAPD, we resolutely cut the ribbon. With all the practice we got over the last few years, we are getting better at cutting ribbons ;). I hope that in the future we will cut some more ribbons for the school (but more about that later :)!

What a day. After years of fundraising, negotiating, building and waiting for COVID, the time had finally come. The Primary School of the Xavier Community School was officially opened. Nothing to be more proud of. Proud we all are. Like a peacock.

This moment has only become possible thanks to all your support over the past years! How nice it would have been if you could have been there. Physically or digitally. Who knows, at least the latter may be within reach in the future.

Thank you so much for making all this possible! Now is the time to harvest and to celebrate, and then to work on realising the other dreams for the future of these children and all the children who will enjoy education at Xavier Community School/Linda Blind Farm School for many years to come.
