Big celebrations in Zambia: Today October 3th Teachers’ Day! Groot feest in Zambia:  Drie oktober was een heel bijzondere dag! Door heel Zambia v0nden festiviteiten plaats om de leraren van het land te vieren.

Op vrijdag 3 oktober herdacht Zambia Teachers Day onder het inspirerende thema: “Empowering Educators, Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability.” Dit thema benadrukt de cruciale rol die leraren spelen in het vormen van veerkrachtige en duurzame gemeenschappen.

Wat een prachtige traditie om Teachers Day landelijk te vieren—een dag waarop de tomeloze inzet van leraren, staff en vrijwilligers op scholen en in het onderwijs wordt erkend, die het leven van zó veel kinderen verbeteren.

Het is niet alleen een dag van feest, maar ook van dankbaarheid voor alle leraren, medewerkers en vrijwilligers in het hele land. Ook een extra bijzonder om de toegewijde leraren, staff en vrijwillige medewerkers van de Xavier Community School in Livingstone, onder leiding van hoofdonderwijzer Mr. Desmond, een hart onder de riem te steken! Jullie komen van heel ver (dat gordijntje tussen twee huizen), en jullie gaan nog veel verder! Van harte gefeliciteerd en alle waardering vandaag—en elke dag—voor dit inspirerende team.

Een van de hoogtepunten van Teachers Day is de jaarlijkse optocht. In het hele land, worden grote optochten gehouden. Scholen lopen mee met hun leraren en personeel, iedere school supertrots met een eigen spandoek. Al vroeg in de ochtend komen de straten tot leven met zingen, dansen en muziek—kleurrijke, levendige en feestelijke optochten die zich kilometerslang uitstrekken.

Natuurlijk liep de Xavier Community School ook mee. In Livingstone. Supertrots werd het spandoek van de Xavier Community School hoog gehouden door Mr. Desmond en medewerkster Mrs. Elidah (al wisselden de dragers natuurlijk ook wel eens). Na de optocht kwam iedereen samen op een groot plein voor toespraken, muziek en traditionele dansgroepen.

Ook de DEBS van het ministerie van onderwijs Southern Provinc Livingstone, Mr. B. Millimo, had een inspirerende speech voor alle leraren en staffmedewerkers.

En zoals het een Zambiaanse zomer betaamt, gebeurt dit alles onder de hete zon—met temperaturen van zo’n 31–34°C en hoge luchtvochtigheid!

Last Friday was a very special day! Across Zambia, festivities took place to honor the country’s teachers.
On Friday, October 3rd, Zambia celebrates Teachers’ Day under the inspiring theme:
“Empowering Educators, Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability.”This theme highlights the crucial role teachers play in building resilient and sustainable communities.

What a wonderful tradition to celebrate Teachers’ Day nationwide—a day that recognizes the tireless dedication of teachers, staff, and volunteers in schools and education, who help improve the lives of so many children. It is not only a day of joy, but also one of gratitude for all teachers, staff, and volunteers across the country.

For us, it is especially meaningful to celebrate the dedicated teachers, staff, and volunteers of the Xavier Community School in Livingstone, led by Headteacher Mr. Desmond. This team started with one teacher and one staff member, supported by Mr Thomas and Mrs Jane (ZAPD) and 5 children from very humble beginnings (that little curtain between two houses!), and now there is this team from about 10/11 teachers, volunteers and staf members and hundreds of children. And they are going further and further. Warm congratulations and heartfelt appreciation today—and every day—for this inspiring team.

One of the highlights of Teachers’ Day is the annual procession. All over the country, large processions are held. Schools march with their teachers and staff, each one proudly carrying its own banner. From early in the morning, the streets come alive with singing, dancing, and music—colorful, vibrant, and joyful parades stretching for kilometers.

Of course, the Xavier Community School joined in as well—in Livingstone. Their banner was proudly carried high by Mr. Desmond and staff member Mrs. Elidah (though of course, others took turns too).
After the procession, everyone gathered in a big square for speeches, music, and traditional dance groups.

The DEBS of the Ministry of Education Southern Province Livingstone, Mr. B. Millimo, also gave an inspiring speech to all teachers and staff. And, true to Zambian summer, everything took place under the hot sun—with temperatures around 31–34°C and high humidity!
