De headteacher, mrs Priscar Chanda, in de schijnwerpers! Happy Birthday Priscar!

Afgelopen week was het feest op de Xavier Community School. Een bijzonder gebeurtenis. De headteacher, Mrs Priscar Chanda, vierde haar 60e verjaardag. En dat mocht ze weten :). Priscar heeft de afgelopen jaren haar sporen als headteacher voor de Xavier Community School verdient. Zij staat mede aan de wieg van de nieuwe primary school, van het handwash basin en van de electriciteit . Maar nog belangrijker is dat zij staat voor de kwaliteit en de verbetering van die kwaliteit van het onderwijs aan alle kinderen. En dat zij, deels samen met Bridget die de pre-school onder haar hoede heeft, leiding geeft aan de uitbreiding van het aantal schoolkinderen en de uitbreiding van het lerarenteam (nu 8 teachers!! voor de pre- en primary school). Meer dan 260 kinderen hebben nu uitzicht op een betere toekomst. In Januari 2023 is grade 6 gestart. Volgend jaar start grade 7. En dat betekent dat er elk jaar meer kinderen naar school kunnen. Kinderen die anders hoogstwaarschijnlijk geen kans op onderwijs zouden hebben.

Dat Priscar heel erg gewaardeerd en gerespecteerd wordt door de teachers en zeker ook door de leerlingen bleek ook toen ze onlangs 60 jaar werd. In elke klas werd ze uitgebreid toegezongen en toegesproken door de kinderen. Veel kinderen hadden briefjes geschreven voor haar. En sommige kinderen gaven ook een klein cadeautje aan Priscar zoals bijvoorbeeld een klein flesje limonade :).

Hartelijk gefeliciteerd Priscar. Nogmaals! Ook namens Bouwstenen voor Zambia. Wij wensen jou een heel gelukkig en gezond jaar. Samen met je man en je familie en zeker ook samen met alle kinderen en de staff van de school.

Last week was a celebration at Xavier Community School. A special event. The headteacher, Mrs. Priscar Chanda, celebrated her 60th birthday. And she had every right to know :). Priscar has earned her spurs as headteacher for Xavier Community School in recent years. She is one of the founders of the new primary school, of the handwash basin and of electricity. But more importantly, she stands for the quality and improvement of the quality of education for all children. And that, partly together with Bridget because of the pre-school, she is leading the expansion of the number of school children and the expansion of the team of teachers (now 8 teachers!!! for the pre- and primary school). More than 260 children at the moment, have the prospect of a better future. Grade 6 started in January 2023. Next year grade 7, in January 2024, will start. And that means that every year more children will get acces to school and to school education. Children who otherwise most likely would have no chance of education.

Priscar is very much appreciated and respected by the teachers and certainly by the students, as was shown when she recently turned 60. In every class she was extensively applauded and addressed by the children. Many children had written bills for her. And some children also gave a small gift to Priscar such as a small bottle of lemonade :).

Congratulations Priscar. Again! Also on behalf of Building Blocks for Zambia. We wish you a very happy and healthy year. Together with your husband and your family and certainly together with all the children and the staff of the school.
