Back to school! Ook in Zambia is de lockdown voor de scholen opgeheven.

Back to school. Dat is niet voor iedereen in de wereld weggelegd. De kinderen van de Linda Blind Farm School zijn hartstikke blij dat zij wel naar school mogen. Having the opportunity to go to school is, unfortunately, not for every child in the  world. Many, to many, children have to lack school education. Because of all the developments at the Linda Farm since 2012, the children of the Linda Blind Farm School, nowadays almost better known as the Xavier Community School, are happy they could all return to school after this last covid-19 lockdown.

Vorige week werd de vlag weer elke dag gehesen en starten de kinderen, op het plein, bij catwalk, voor de school hun dag weer met de National Anthem. Last week the Zambian flag at the school square of the Linda Blind Farm School was raised again. All classes returned to school again after a lockdown caused bij Covid-19.  Children started their school days again by singing the National Anthem.

Nog niet alle kinderen waren al weer op school. Dat duurt altijd weer een paar dagen. En niet omdat ze nog met de ouders op vakantie zijn. Integendeel. Sommige kinderen hebben tijdens de lockdown moeten werken, in het huishouden bij moeten staan, of hun ouders moeten helpen bijvoorbeeld om te zorgen dat er wat brood op de plank kon komen (typisch Nederlands spreekwoord. In Zambia komt er meestal Nsjima in het bord overigens). Deze kinderen en meestal vooral hun ouders moeten weer even “de weg naar de school terugvinden”.

Not all the children were able to attend school the first days. It always takes a few days or even a week. Some children for instance had to assist their parents during lockdown to put food on the table. Those children and even more their parents have to get their way back to the school. But fortunately experiences has shown this will be ok. And if not? The teachers start doing their inquiries out of interest or go out for a home visit. That’s one of their ways to flesh out the mission of the Xavier Community School: “education is the best weapon to change your world” (Nelson Mandela) and therefore “we go far, together”.

even de goede afstand tot elkaar meten. Anderhalve meter reiken de armen niet maar ze komen een heel eind :). Keeping distance, very important nowadays so the children strech their arms :).

Maar gelukkig weten we uit ervaring dat dat goed gaat komen. En als het te lang gaat duren? Dan gaan de leraren navraag doen of een huisbezoekje af leggen. Zo geven zij ook handen en voeten aan de missie van de Linda Blind Farm School want zoals op het naambord naast de hoofddeur van de school ook prijkt:  “education is the best weapon to change the world” (Nelson Mandela).
